Awarded Pub of the Year 2014, by the Bromley section of CAMRA, and included in the good beer guides for 9 years (just included in 2020), it is an independant family run 16th century traditional country pub in the centre of Downe Village, a short drive or bus journey from Orpington or Bromley. The public bar (Darwin Bar, yes Charles Darwin himself drank here) has three roaring log fires (in the winter), along with leather chesterfields, a piano and a darts board. It also has three small restaurants as well as a small snug bar for quiet, more intimate drinks. For the summer, it has a large walled patio / garden area perfect for relaxing after those country rambles, Bar Snacks, full Menu and daily specials available made from localy sourced produce.’

Jackie & Nigel welcome dogs as much as people in the pub. Locals and visitors (eg tourists) all bring their dogs in – particularly useful if you have been out walking.   Doggie treats sometimes available. A cosy wooden floor for our four legged friends make it a clean and welcoming environment for dogs. There is always a water bowl on hand.

This is a lovely local pub but also very welcoming to new visitors. There is a separate restaurant and snug for non-dog people and another bar where you can bring your dogs. It has an open fire with tables and chesterfield sofas and chairs to relax in. Water bowls are always available. The pub garden is beautiful with flowers growing everywhere.   The food is good pub food and reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly.

Lovely village pub with welcoming and friendly staff. Great places to take the dogs for long walks and perfect pit stop for a bite to eat. Dogs love it!
