Situated in the picturesque village of Calbourne (home of Winkle Street), The Sun Inn is run by Kate, David and their team. Our aim is to make each visit special whether you are popping in for a drink, snack or having a meal. We offer a wide range of traditional home cooked foods, many available in Gluten Free options and smaller appetite sizes. We have a varied vegetarian menu with many vegan options. A children’s and toddler’s menu is also available. We offer two well kept Real Ales which are rotated to provide a choice. A range of lagers, ciders Guinness and dark mild are on draught. We have a large car park and beer garden with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. If you fancy a walk or cycle ride in the surrounding countryside the No 7 bus stops right outside of the pub. Dogs are very welcome, this year we have added a bespoke dog menu tasted and approved by Waggles (pub dog), dog towels for wet days and dog blankets for cold days. Well behaved owners are also welcome.

1 November 2019 at 6:48pmThis pub beats any other pub I have been into for dog friendly! Plenty of dog water, dog menu, dog beds & blankets, towels when it’s wet and plenty of dog treats what more could a dog want. Us humans are well looked after to. Beer and food is amazing.

Even though we don’t live on the island we have been there for Christmas dinner and can’t recommend the pub enough keep up the excellent work.

We motorhome all over this country and Europe and can honestly say that the Sun is one of those rare pubs that has everything we look for. We can park overnight in their car park, walk the dog and have good meal and a few drinks in a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Kate, David, Waggles (the lovely friendly pub dog) and their team provide an excellent experience for pooch and owner.They all deserve to win best dog pub award and definitely get our vote.

For dog walkers it’s a real delight to know you can take your dog into the pub with you after a good walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. They provide, towels for wet dogs, blankets for tired dogs to curl up in and a food for hungry dogs. We motorhome all over this country and Europe and can honestly say that the Sun Inn is one of the rare places where we find everything we need for a stopover, as we can park in their carpark overnight, walk the dog and have a good meal. Kate, David and their staff are an excellent team and definitely get our vote for the best dog-friendly pub award.

23 October 2019 at 8:18pmSun Inn Calbourne is an incredibly friendly place. Great service and amazing food. From gluten free to veggie, vegan and of course a whole load of meatyness as well.
It’s also an amazing place for dog walkers/owners. With doggy blankets, treats and even a dog menu to pick from it’s as much a day out for them as it is their humans.

Dog are welcomed and have their own canine menu, with plenty of water bowls and dog comforts available, and meet the cute “Waggles” the Sun Inn resident Cockerpoo.

Helpful ReviewNot only the best on the Island for humans in every department with excellent service and food to match, they are the only best dog friendly establishment on the Island.
They have dogs themselves, all breeds are welcome and water, treats and cuddles are always available.
Even better , if you should forget to feed your dog as we did one day they even feed him or her for
you with pleasure and no extra cost.
Nothing is to much trouble and also any emergency is dealt with calmly.
When we had to go to hospital the other week urgent Kate and David even looked after our Scottie at their living quarters until we could collect him again.
We recommend this pub to all four legged friends and their owners.
You won’t be disappointed.

There is fresh water available both inside and out in the garden. Dog treats are available, with owners permission, and food can be cooked for them too

Kate and David are themselves dog owners, which is obvious when seeing them with visiting dogs. There is always fresh water in bowls and dog treats behind the bar.
I saw one couple ordering burgers for themselves and steak for their terrier – all were thoroughly enjoyed!

10 September 2018 at 2:06pmKate and David, who run The Sun always have a warm and friendly welcome for all visitors, both two and four legged. Food is available for dogs, there is always fresh water available, there is an excellent secure outdoor garden for the dogs to roam obviously under their owners supervision. All dogs are welcome and in the five years plus I have been taking my two schnauzers into The Sun, there has never been a dog refused entry and apart a little barking there have been no incidents.
I have tried many pubs on the Isle of Wight and The Sun Inn is no doubt the best on the Island for the way in which dogs and humans are treated.
