The Stables was built to serve the watermen and horses using the Forth and Clyde Canal. When the canal was first built the boats that used it were pulled by horses, as a horse could go a few miles before needing a rest stables were built along the route. The stables would have an Inn on one side where the boatman and his passengers might rest and eat whilst on the other side there would have been equine accommodation with a hayloft above.
Originally built to service the work horses we now take great pride in providing refreshments for our guests and their four legged friends. (Horses are still welcome in the beer garden)
~A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Love coming here with my dog. They’ve always been dog friendly, but recently they have made lots of changes to go above and beyond what you’d get in most places! There’s throws and rugs, lots of bowls and toys. New doggy menu and an outside watering area!! We go to lots of doggy places and I’ve yet to find one on par with here!

Great atmosphere, fantastic food and tonight our dog buddies were treated to fresh water bowls, loads of cuddles and even a wee bit of steak! Can’t recommend this place enough – best dog friendly pub I’ve ever been to and the staff are absolute stars.

Brilliant pub, great food, fantastic staff, excellent location… and mega dog friendly, what’s not to love? also a fantastic range of drinks. Love coming here on a sunny day and sitting in the beer garden watching the canal boats go by, equally on a winter’s night by the fireside… idyllic.
