I am a border collie and live in Newton. I am a regular visitor to the Parkers Arms and have been going there all my life. AJ is very nice to me and usually gives me a dog biscuit which sometimes annoys my owner if he is still waiting for a drink. I’ve recently been told that I’m not allowed to sit at the bar on a bar stool as apparently not everybody loves dogs. Most of the people in the pub are very nice and talk to me, although I don’t understand what some of them are saying, like the Stuart man. (I think he’s Lithuanian). You get a good mix of dogs coming in. There are a few ‘hoity toity’ shooting types, but mostly they are a decent bunch. The dogs don’t tend to talk politics. There is enough of that from the owners. All in all ‘the Parkers’ is a great pub for dogs.
The best dog friendly pub I’ve been to. To be honest, I don’t think I’d be allowed in the place if I didn’t bring Charlie Lol! Lovey food and a warm welcome every time!
The Parkers continues to be the most dog friendly pub I have ever visited. We first took our Boarder Terrier on the way home from picking him up from the breeder at 8 weeks. He had a mouthful of steak and he’s been a committed regular ever since. He stakes out the Defender as soon as we start getting ready to go out on a Friday night and when I ask “are you coming to the pub” he practically puts his own harness on. He knows he will get treats from AJ and Ben who are on first name terms with all the dogs. he knows that lots of his canine friends will be there…so many that customers without a dog must feel like they are missing something.
This pub is like Crufts on a Friday evening, full of locals with their dogs, customers and staff happily stepping over dogs to get to the bar. Every dog gets a biscuit, on the house, at some point and the regulars, dogs that is, are on first name terms withe the management.
There are lots of dog friendly pubs in this area, but this is the most welcoming. Lucy was first greeted by the pub dogs in the car park and then given cuddles and biscuits inside.
The great think about bringing our two to the Parkers is we are guaranteed to meet loads more dogs, and they are all treated the same, be they regulars or first timers AJ always has a test for them. He’s a bit of a dog whisperer actually.
If you have dogs and you don’t bring them here, shame on you!!
