This is a fantastic ‘gastro’ style pub made even better by the fact they allow dogs both inside and in their courtyard.
I regularly visit with my pooch, whether it’s for a cup of tea, dinner with friends, to catch up on emails on my laptop or to sit outside with a cool drink in the sunshine. The staff always acknowledge my dog and give her a stroke and are always very accommodating in getting my dog a bowl of water.
The owner also owns a gorgeous puppy who is often sat in the pub too and always appreciates a fuss.
Obviously being dog friendly is already a massive winner but the rustic environment of stone walls, deer heads, candle light and mismatched wooden furniture makes a great atmosphere. Plus the menu for both drinks and food is fantastic and regularly gets updated which makes for a great excuse to take a trip there.
What is also great is the opening times, 8.30am – 11pm everyday of the year apart from Christmas, which means you can always guarantee they’d welcome you and your dog after a dog walk around Thornbury! We like to tie it in with a walk in the fields behind Natwest bank which has a path past the cemetery and along to Thornbury Castle.
